By Brian Hagenbuch

The Puente del Inca is the most interesting and important Incan ruins in the province of Mendoza. Set off the highway to Chile, arrange an excursion in Mendoza. Legend says a group of Incans left Cuzco to look for medicine for their ailing leader. But when their  trip was cut short on the eastern side of the Andes by the raging waters of the Las Cuevas River, they nearly perished. They stumbled across a rock bridge that allowed them safe passage and a successful mission. A small temple was built at the site and geothermic activity has added color and fantastical formations. There are also hot springs nearby. The trip is better to do in the warm months as the winter can be hostile.
