Located two blocks off Plaza Independencia, this backpacker house is within walking distance of all of Mendoza’s attractions. The hostel is clean, simple and cheap, and in the summer gets a bit crazy with travelers partying into the wee hours (thanks, no doubt, to staff-organized asados – vegetarians have the alternative of cooking in the shared kitchen). When full, the owner allows travelers to pitch a tent on the top patio, though this has been known to put a strain on available showers. There’s a double room available on the far side of the patio, though, be warned: the bathroom is more of a closet. Dorm rooms hold six people; four-person rooms are also available. The owner is an outdoorsy type and can organize whatever kind of activity you wish—be it climbing, mountain biking, rafting, trekking, horseback riding or paragliding. Luggage storage and laundry service are available as well.
