When to Go

Mendocinos enjoy an annual average of 330 days of sunshine, coupled with daily highs ranging from 10°C (50°F) in winter (June-September) to 40°C (104°F) in summer (December-March). As little as 200 millimeters (7.8 in) of rain falls in this desert-like region; however, thunderstorms dump torrential rain and hail unexpectedly throughout late summer.

Two of the cities largest festivals occur in early March. The internationally known Vendimia celebrates the wine harvest, while the Festa in Piazza honors the city’s rich Italian heritage. Other important events include the religious Cabalgata de Los Reyes Magos, in January; Aniversario de la Muerte del General San Martin, on August 17; and Fiesta de Las Colectividades, in October.
