This 420-kilometer tour leaves early in the morning and makes the first stop outside the small town of El Sosneado where there are hot springs and a lake. It continues to cross the massive plain leading up to the Andes where there is little more than cacti and the occasional herd of sheep. The road then rises up through a large river valley in the foothills of the Andes and gets into the small settlement Los Molles. From Los Molles the bus climbs further to a pretty, high-mountain tarn, Laguna de la Nina Encantada, before climbing still further to the ski resort. At the resort, lunch can be bought, but if you’re budget-minded it’s advised to bring something along to avoid the high prices. The van then heads back down to San Rafael, getting in late in the evening.
