Just eight kilometers out of downtown San Rafael are the vast, sprawling grounds of Bianchi’s hyper-modern champagne-making complex. From the highway, the place looks more like a country club, with swaths of irrigated green, fountains and an abundance of white pillars. But it’s for just for making champagne. Although the Bodega is sometimes criticized by locals as being too modern and therefore soulless, those interested in how large quantities of champagne are made today will be interested in taking a tour of the grounds.
