As a frontier city, Colón has seen conflict in its streets, particularly around the International General Artigas Bridge for several reasons ranging from commerce to agriculture and other political debates. Nonetheless, the small city is a relatively safe place on a regular basis, and tourists are treated well, as residents know tourism is a big income for the city.
