Mesopotamia and Northeast Argentina Things to See and Do

follow us

Northeastern Argentina has a wealth of things to see and do for any type of traveler. History buffs should visit the Jesuit-Guaraní missions in Corrientes and Misiones Provinces. The history of a nation in the making resounds from Libertador San Martín’s birthplace in Yapeyú to the War of the Triple Alliance monuments in Corrientes capital. Indigenous communities and European immigrant villages provide lessons about their cultures and world visions. The Camino del Che also begins here, in Rosario and Caraguatay. Birdwatchers and nature aficionados will be in heaven in Northeastern Argentina. The entire region is awash with vast wetlands, like Esteros del Iberá and Bañado la Estrella. National and provincial reserves cover one end to the other, from Reserva Nacional Formosa in the west to Reserva de Biósfera Yabotí in the far east.

Anglers will want to cast their lines into the Paraná and Uruguay Rivers for pacú, surubim, golden dorado and sábalo. Paso de los Libres and other towns in Corrientes Province have big annual fishing tournaments, as do Herradura near Formosa and Isla del Cerrito near Resistencia.
