San Ignacio Services

Information Offices

The Misiones Province Tourism Office is just off the highway, before the archway entry (Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m., 1-6 p.m., weekends 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m.). In town, across from the church, SI Viger is a privately operated tourism office that also books bus tickets and HI hostels in other parts of the country (daily 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Sarmiento 500). Other useful offices are the police (San Martín 1091, Tel.: 47-0035) and Gendamería Nacional (San Martín and Cabral, Tel.: 47-0023).

Money

Banco Macro has an ATM, but some international travelers report problems with using Maestro cards (Sarmiento 798, and San Martín). No formal money exchange exists in San Ignacio. Some businesses in front of the ruins may exchange cash US dollars or euros.

Communications

While waiting in line at the post office to send off postcards, be sure to read the great sayings posted (Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-noon, 5-6 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.-noon. San Martín and Irigoyen). Hotel San Ignacio has phone booths and Internet ($1.10 per hour, daily 7 a.m.-11 p.m. San Martín 823 and Sarmiento). A few blocks down on the main street, Cyber Centro (Sarmiento 696; $0.80 per hour) has a slow Internet connection. No one has Skype.

Medical

Hospital San Ignacio handles village medical emergencies (Avenida Quiroga and Independencia, Tel.: 47-0007). There are several pharmacies are on San Martín and Sarmiento: Sagrado Corazón (San Martín 788, corner of Sarmiento), Avenida (San Martín 830) and San Gabriel (LaValle 708, corner of Sarmiento).
