El Sauzalito: Altitude: 132 m / 433 ft, Population: 2,615, Phone Code: 03732
From Nueva Pompeya, public transportation goes to Wichà villages along Ruta Provincial 9 and Ruta Provincial 3 to the north. The most important of these is El Sauzalito (95 km / 59 mi). On the south shore of RÃo Teuco are beaches to relax. Boat trips upriver lead to more remote villages and fortress ruins. DÃa de los Pueblos IndÃgenas, a national holiday recognizing Argentina’s indigenous cultures, is especially good here, with dances, oral history lessons, story telling and other events. Launches go across the river to Formosa Province, where informal transportation can be sought to villages there.
Visitors to this small village will not have very many accommodation options to choose from. With a remote location and a small population of some 2000, the El Suazalito locality doesn't draw many tourists and the amount of places to stay reflects that. There are a few options to choose from, but if you're looking for 5-star luxury, best look outside of El Suazalito.
Hospedaje de Don Andrés (Tel.: 03715-1561-7267)—$8.50 per person
Hotel Pizarro (Tel.: 48-2082)—$14 per person; also has guide and transportation services.
Hotel Paulito—$23 per person
Two recommended eateries in El Sauzalito are Restaurante Peto and Comedor El Ãngel.
El Sauzalito has no tourism information office, bank or other services. There is a police station, health post and phone. Crafts may be bought directly from artisans. Ask around.
