Presidencia Roque Sáenz Peña is on Ruta Nacional 16, 168 kilometers (104 mi) west of Resistencia and 672 kilometers (418 mi) east of Salta, at the junction with Ruta Nacional 95.

Bus

Roque Sáenz Peña’s bus terminal is a strange array of metal trailers-cum-ticket offices “parked” beneath a pavilion. Other services on this lot include restaurants, shops, an Internet-phone center, bathrooms and an ATM (out front). Behind the station is a park with a small lagoon in the center.

To Villa Río Bermejito: 3 hours—Micronor (6 a.m., 10:30 a.m., $7), La Termal (8:30 a.m., 3:30 p.m., $8). Both stop at JJ Castelli ($5.50)

To JJ Castelli: 2 hours—El Pulqui (11:45 a.m.,$8.50), La Estrella (3 p.m., $5.50)

To General Pinedo / Gancedo: Expreso del Plata (10a.m., 8 p.m.; return 5:30 p.m., 5 a.m., 3 / 4 hr, $5.50 / $7), also 4 p.m. to Chorotis by way of Pinedo. Bambi goes as far as General Pinedo (6a.m., noon, 6 p.m., $5.50)

To Resistencia: 2.5-3 hours, $8—La Termal (5 a.m., 6 a.m., noon, 3 p.m., 8 p.m., 10:30 p.m.), La Estrella (8a.m., 9a.m., 5 p.m., 6 p.m.)

To Posadas: 8 hours—Andesmar (8 p.m., $31), Nueva Estrella (1:30 a.m., $26), Flecha (3 busses 1-2:30 a.m., $26-34)

To Puerto Iguazú: Andesmar (8 p.m., 12.5 hr, $45)

To Salta: 9 hours, $33—Flecha (midnight), Nueva Estrella (8:30 p.m., 9:15 p.m.), Veloz del Norte (8 p.m.), Norte Bis (8:30 p.m., 9:15 p.m.)

To Córdoba: 12 hours—Plus Ultra (Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday 8 p.m., $46), Flecha (Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday 5 p.m., $52-63)

To Mendoza: Andesmar (10 a.m., 23 hr, $84)

To Rosario: El Pulqui (4:15 a.m., $37-42, 11 hr)

To Buenos Aires: Most buses pass through Roque Sáenz Peña 3:30-8 p.m., 15 hours—Águila Dorada (4 buses, $66-80), Tata Rápido / San José (5 buses; also 7 a.m., $66-80); Nuevo Expresso (1 bus, $66), Norte Bis ($63) and Vosa ($60) each have one departure. El Pulqui (4:15 a.m., $63-76). Many buses stop in Corrientes. Some go by way of Mercedes, Colón, Gualeguaychú.

Train

Sefecha (Servicios Ferroviarios del Chaco) has daily coche-motor (railbus) to Chorotis (5 p.m., 5 hours, $4.50). It stops at 15 other towns along the way, including General Pinedo, north of Campo del Cielo and Gancedo (3.5 hours, $3). Buy tickets the same day as travel at Sáenz Peña’s train station (4-5 p.m. Av Sarmiento / 1, 300, Tel: 54-3732-420-709 / 54-3732-426-356, E-mail: serfecha@ecomchaco.com.ar, URL: www.sefecha.com). The coche-motor departs Chorotis for Sáenz Peña at 4 a.m. and General Pinedo at 5:20 a.m., arriving in Sáenz Peña at 8:55 a.m. There is no service on some holidays. The Roque Sáenz Peña-Resistencia service is to resume in the future.

Air

Sáenz Peña’s airport is on Ruta Provincial 28, about five kilometers (3 mi) from town. At present there is no service to this city, though Aerochaco may provide such again in the future.
