San Cosme

Near Corrientes is San Cosme, a small village with historical and cultural importance. San Cosme was the birthplace of chamamé music legend Mario del Tránsito Cocomarola who wrote over 400 songs. A monument and street pay tribute to him. Every September 19 there is a festival in his honor. “Darse Cuenta,” a mural by Fernando Calzoni on the Escuela Normal, serves as a reminder of the most important battles of the Guerra de la Triple Alianza. The city’s cemetery is the final resting place for soldiers who died in the war.The house where General Bartolomé Mitre stayed is presently a historical museum and tourist information office. San Cosme celebrates its patron saints, San Cosme and San Damián, on September 26.
