Piedra Buena is located at the junction of Ruta Nacional (RN) 3 and RN 288, 119 kilometers (195 mi) south of Puerto San Julián and 231 kilometers (141 mi) north of Río Gallegos. East on RN 288, on the coast, is Puerto Santa Cruz (36 km / 23 mi). RN 288 West heads to Tres Lagos (232 km / 142 mi) and Gobernador Gregores (197 km / 121 mi). Rains or snows can temporary close roads at any time of the year. In town are gas stations, mechanics and tire repair shops.
Piedra Buena's bus terminal is on Avenida Ibáñez and Menéndez. Many buses running along Ruta Nacional 3 pick up passengers here, including Sportman, Taqsa, Vía Bariloche, Don Otto, Andesmar and Tramat. Also stopping at Piedra Buena are El Pulgarcito's Río Gallegos-Gobernador Gregores run, and Tips and Las Lengas to Tres Lagos and El Chaltén. See those cities for details on schedules. During the low season, bus service is less frequent.
