Museo Municipal Mario Brozoski - Museum Puerto Deseado - Argentina

The HMS Swift, a British sloop captained by George Farmer, left Malvinas on March 6, 1770, with 91 men aboard. When it hit bad weather, strong winds drove it to the Patagonian coast. Farmer sought shelter in the bay but gusts and strong currents drove it against an uncharted rock; eighty-eight men survived. For centuries, the wreck lay forgotten, until 1982, when local divers finally found it. Amazingly, the boat was 60 percent intact, preserved by the cold water and silt. Underwater excavations continue, with finds being displayed in the Museo Municipal Mario Brozoski, Argentina’s only marine archeological museum.
