Puerto Deseado’s Museums - Museum Puerto Deseado - Argentina

  • Museo Padre Beauvoir (Monday-Friday 5:30-8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Colegio Salesiano, 12 de Octubre and Don Bosco. Entry: free) – Named for the founder of the school, this natural history museum is on the second floor of the colegio. On display are preserved animals, shells, fossils and an impressive collection of arrowheads and other stone tools.
  • Museo Municipal Mario Brozoski (Monday-Saturday 8 a.m.-3 p.m., extended hours in summer. Colón and Belgrano, Tel.: 487-1358, E-mail: / Entry: free) – This marine archeology museum displays over 400 bottles, porcelain, navigational instruments and other artifacts excavated from the HMS Swift shipwreck.
  • Museo de la Estación del Ferrocarril (Monday-Friday 4-7 p.m. Arias and Malvinas, E-mail: Entry: free) – This museum in the former train station narrates the history of the Puerto Deseado-Las Heras line and the railroad in Patagonia.
  • Coche Reservado 502 (guided tour from tourism office. San Martín and Brown. Entry: free) – This wooden train car was the one used by Teniente Coronel Héctor Benigno Varela in the last blow against striking workers in 1922. Various displays discuss the strike.
