The Dirección de Turismo has a good map of the city, a list of services and beautiful pamphlets of local attractions (low season: Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; high season: daily 8 a.m.-9 p.m. San MartÃn 1525, Tel.: 487-0220, E-mail: turismo@pdeseado.com.ar / puertodeseado@santacruz.gov.ar, URL: www.puertodeseado.gov.ar).There is a friendly branch office at the bus terminal (Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-5 p.m., extended hours in summer). The police station is at Ameghino 1080 (Tel.: 487-2777 / 487-2707.
Money
Banks in Puerto Deseado are open Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-1 p.m. All have ATMs that accept MasterCard, Cirrus, Visa and Plus cards.
Communications
Send mail at Correo Argentino (Monday-Friday 8 .m.-4 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.-1 p.m. San MartÃn, between Brown and Belgrano). There are several phone centers / Internet cafés. All charge $1.40 per hour for Internet use. Patagonia Communicaciones has Skype and serves coffee and other hot drinks (daily 10 a.m.-midnight. San MartÃn and Zar).
Medical
The city has a medical facility, Hospital Distrital (España 991, Tel.: 487-0200 / emergency 107) and the pharmacies Central (Brown 560), La Farmacia (12 de Octubre 649) and Deseado (San MartÃn, between Zar and Moreno).
Laundry
Servi-Lav does laundry for $5.70 per basket (Monday-Saturday 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m., 4-8 p.m. Piedra Buena 559).
Camera
F. Iribarren carries cameras, 35mm film, and does developing (Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m., 5-9 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., 5-8:30 p.m. Rivadavia and San MartÃn). AramÃs Sistemas does repairs (Don Bosco, between Moreno and Zar).
