Área Natural Protegida Municipal El Doradillo - Other Activity Puerto Madryn - Argentina

Just offshore of solitary Playa El Doradillo, mother whales and their calves laze in the tranquil waters. From time to time, one will raise her fluke skyward, falling drops glistening in the sun. From June to December female Southern right whales come to this protected cove to breastfeed. Its warmer waters are better for the young than the cold currents of the open sea, and she can rest from her baby’s voracious feeding.

Área Natural Protegida Municipal El Doradillo is a 7,500-hectare (18,533-ac) nature reserve that protects 25 kilometers (15.5 mi) of beaches, from Punta Arco to Cerro Prismático. The area is also good for observing birds and other fauna.
