Another provincial nature reserve near Puerto Madryn is Área Natural Protegida Punta Loma. This park, created in 1967, was Chubut Province’s first such protected area. Its objective is to preserve one of Patagonia’s largest sea lion (lobo marino de un pelo, Otaria flavescens) colonies. Atop the bluff is a lookout point from where the lobería may be observed. The reserve also has an interpretive flora trail.
