Boat Tours of the Bay - Other Activity Puerto San Julián - Argentina

The two large islands in Bahía San Julián may be visited on boat tour. Isla de los Pájaros (a.k.a. Banca Justicia) is a nesting ground for Cormorán Imperial (Imperial Shag, Phalacrocorax atriceps), Cormorán Gris (Red-legged Cormorant, Phalacrocórax gaimardi), Gaviota Cocinera (Kelp Gull, Larus dominicanus), Gaviota Austral (Dolphin Gull, Larus scorebii), Golondrina de Mar (Wilson’s Storm Petrel, Oceanites oceanicus) and other birds. Isla de los Pingüinos (Banco Cormorán) has resident populations of Biguá (Neotropic Cormorant , Phalacrocórax olivaceus), Paloma Antártica (Snowy Sheathbill, Chionis alba), Ostrero Negro (Blackish Oystercatcher, Haematopus ater), several varieties of Gaviotín (Tern) and other avifauna—plus 120,000 Pingüinos Magallánicos (Magellanic Penguin, Spheniscus magellanicus) that nest on the island from September to April. Boat journeys are often punctuated by leaping Tonina overa (Commerson's Dolphin, Cephalorhynchus commersonii).
