Through Estancia La MarÃa courses a volcanic rock ravine that is the stage for what archaeologists consider to be the second most important ancient site in Santa Cruz Province. In 12 sectors of the ranch are 84 caves and rock overhangs covered with pinturas rupestres dating from 13,600 BC. These paintings are similar to those found at Cueva de las Manos (near Perito Moreno), with hand prints, hunting scenes and herds of galloping guanacos. The Cañadón MarÃa Baja and Cañadón MarÃa Quebrada paths lead to the best examples. Estancia La MarÃa also has a small petrified forest.
