The weather in Puerto San Julián is like the rest of coastal Patagonia: warm and breezy in summer, and sink-to-the-bone damp chill in the winter. Snows are possible May-August. More tourists come in summer, though many stay only for a night or two. The penguins drop in between September and April. Cormorants and Commerson’s dolphins are also more common during these months.

The first half of January (depending on the tides) is the shark fishing competition, Torneo Patagónico del Tiburón. On Easter Sunday is a pilgrimage to Vía Lucis atop Cerro Montecristo. The city’s founding, September 17, is a three-day celebration with an artisan fair and other activities.
