In Río Gallegos' oldest surviving building is Museo de los Pioneros. The house, built about 1890, was home first to Dr. Arthur Fenton and later to the Parisi family for 60 years. The six rooms display photos of the British (mainly Irish and Scottish), Spanish, Italian and other immigrant communities. Implements of their daily lives and descriptions explain how they forged this territory into an economically important region. On the ground floor is the sala where the territorial government had its office and a doctor's examination chamber. Exhibit explanations are in Spanish and English.
