In summer, expect pleasant temperatures, but strong winds that will knock you off your feet. These gusts last from spring to fall. In the cold winter months (May-September), snow and ice can cause roads to be closed.
Río Gallegos has its own civilian and religious calendar of events:
January 21 – Fiesta del Don Bosco, a tipping of the hat to the Patagonia's patron saint.
December 8 – Fiesta de la Inmaculada Concepción de Nuestra Señora – The Virgin, patron saint of RíoGallegos, is commemorated with a pilgrimage to Güer Aike, 30 kilometers (18 miles) north of the city.
