Summer may be the height of the tourism season, but that doesn’t mean that during the dark, cold winter months you won’t find plenty to do here. You can still navigate to Glaciar Perito Moreno and trek the glaciers, strap on the ice skates and glide out to Isla Solitaria, cut a hole in the ice on the lagunas and drop a line, go cross-country skiing or take a modern sleigh ride in a 4x4.

You Need to Bring: Remember to dress warmly, including hat and gloves or mittens, and drink plenty of warm liquids.

Head into Parque Nacional Los Glaciares to boat to and trek Glaciar Perito Moreno and the other glaciers, fish at Lago Roca. Go out to the estancias to enjoy an asado del palo and go horseback riding. Explore the ancient history of the region, at Cuevas del Waliche and Bosque Petrificado la Leona. In town, visit the museums or birdwatch at Reserva Laguna Nímez.
