Miradores de los Cóndores y de las Águilas

The Miradores de los Cóndores and de las Águilas trails begin from the park office. At first, the main trail passes through the compound, to the trailhead to the left. The path then rises steadily and easily up. Near the top of the hill, the trail forks. The left route heads up to Mirador de los Cóndores. This cliff-top viewpoint has condor nests behind the APN office. Views of the city, the Río de las Vieltas and the entire range of mountains are great from up here (Distance: 1 km/0.6 mi, difficulty: easy, duration: 40 minutes).

The right fork is the new Mirador de las Águilas trail. This path cuts across flat brushland dotted with clusters of trees. It ends at a point where you can sit and take in the landscape south of El Chaltén. Cerro Huemel is to the right and Bahía Túnel and Lago Viedma are straight ahead in the distance (Distance: 2 km/01.2 mi, difficulty: easy, duration: 1 hour).

You Need to Bring: Be sure to have warm and rainproof clothing. A windbreaker is also essential, especially in summer. Carry high-energy food and water (though the stream water is potable). Use sturdy footwear and a small backpack.

Hiking the other trails in Parque Nacional Los Glaciares; in winter, snowshoe or ski. Boating on Lago del Desierto and Lago Viedma, and trekking the glaciers there. Kayaking or canoeing on Lago del Desierto or Río de las Vueltas. Horseback riding. Experienced climbers, tackle the great massifs: Torre and Fitz Roy.
