When summer comes and the tourists flow into El Chaltén, an impressive number of restaurants open. From simple snack shops to bistros specializing in nouvelle cuisine, there’s something for every traveler’s wallet. The town is awash with places featuring typical Argentine fare, like milanesas, pastas, pizzas, parrillas and empanadas. Things to keep an eye out for on the menus are Patagonian lamb and trout. Many shops sell locally made products, like native-fruit marmalades, chocolates, sausages and cured meats. Most restaurants operate only October – April.
