Río Turbio is on Ruta 40, 280 kilometers (174 mi) from Río Gallegos, 290 kilometers (180 mi) from El Calafate and four kilometers (2.4 miles) from the Paso Mina 1 border crossing into Chile.
Urban buses to neighboring village 28 de Noviembre depart hourly from Castillo near the tourism office (hourly, $1, 30 min). A taxi costs $1.40 - 1.70 for short runs, and $2.60 to either the Museo or Mina 1.
During the low season, bus service is less frequent. Rain or snow can temporarily close the road at any time of the year. There is no central bus terminal:

To Río Gallegos: 5 hours – Marga (Monday-Saturday 7:30 a.m., $13), Taqsa (daily 11:30 a.m., 2 a.m., $13), Pingüino (Wednesday, Friday 4 a.m., $7, by way of Zurdo).
To Puerto Natales, Chile: $5.70, 1 hour – Cootra (daily 12:15 p.m., 7:45 p.m.), Lagosur-Turis-Sur (Monday-Friday 10:15 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m., Saturday 2:30 p.m.)
