Visiting a park constructed entirely out of garbage may at first not sound like a pleasant way to spend an afternoon. But Parque El Desafio, filled with mazes, whimsical sculptures, and fastasyful renditions of famous works of art and structures—all made from trash—is fun for children and adults alike. The park was created in the 1980’s by pack rat Joaquín Alonso, and has since been featured in the 1998 Guinness Book as the world’s largest park made from recycled materials. Highlights of Parque El Desafío include “trashy” replicas of pieces by famous artists, including a rendition of Picasso’s Guernica.
