V!VA User‘s Description For most travelers Rio Gallegos simply represents the gateway to Southern Patagonia, but it is not an entirely uninteresting port town near the southern tip of Argentina. It’s most recent claim to fame, or infamy, depending on whether you ask an Argentine or Englishman, was its use as a military base during the Falkland Island war in 1982.
