Rio Gallegos Overview

V!VA User‘s Description

For most travelers Rio Gallegos simply represents the gateway to Southern Patagonia, but it is not an entirely uninteresting port town near the southern tip of Argentina. It’s most recent claim to fame, or infamy, depending on whether you ask an Argentine or Englishman, was its use as a military base in the Falkland Island war in 1982. One might be interested in viewing the monuments dedicated to the military personnel who served in the conflict. Rio Gallegos also offers some museums and historical architecture relating to its historical development as boom coal town and sheep farming community settled by adventurous Brits and Chileans.
