Festival Types:
Día de la tradición festival

By Elizabeth Findell

The event of the year in Areco is Día de la Tradición, a celebration that features all the most entertaining facets of gaucho culture. Throw on a hat and a poncho for dancing, exhibitions, a gaucho procession, barbecue, Argentine bronc riding, and other displays of ranching skill. Día de la Tradición began in 1939. The day itself is November 10, the birthday of Jose Hernandez, who wrote the epic gaucho poem Martín Fierro, but activities go on all week.
