Just when you think you’re in Tombstone, the hooting of monkeys or the chirping of parrots might seem incongruous. But out of the dust rises the Carlos Merti zoo, a family run collection of 47 regional animal species. The menagerie includes toucans, monkeys, wild cats, turtles, foxes, owls, snakes, and numerous bird types. All are native to Argentina with signs outside their enclosures indicating which parts. Kids will love it, the animals are interesting, and the leafy walkways are pleasant, but the zoo itself is not large, so an hour or two is probably more than enough time to spend. Hours are posted outside, but are not set in stone.
