The streets of this tiny town are deserted and dark in the evenings. Women should be especially careful of late night walking during Carnaval, when you’re likely to encounter drunken men—they are usually harmless, but a little extra awareness never hurts. And as with other towns in the province, drink lots of water and be sure to acclimate to the altitude before embarking on major hikes.
