Like its sister Jujuy towns, Purmamarca has a generally mild climate year-round. While it can get chilly in the evenings, a big winter coat is never a necessity here. Keep in mind, however, that summertime (December through March) sees a lot of rain.
Most shops are closed on Sundays, but the mountains never close so there’s always something to do. Carnaval, which lasts most of February, is always a fun event, but be sure to book rooms ahead. Processions, liturgy, and other festivities celebrate the feast day of Santa Rosa, the town’s patron saint, on August 30 every year.
