For such a tiny town, Purmamarca’s to-do list runs long. The star, of course, is its massive, multi-colored mountain, but the historic Iglesia de Santa Rosa runs a close second. The mountains beckon to hikers and horseback riders, and just 22 kilometers away, near the tiny town of Huachichocana, is an archaeological site with cave paintings.
For shoppers and eaters, this is the place to be. Not only is the plaza packed with the usual vendors, but the streets surrounding it are filled with shops selling unique handicrafts and artisanal foods. Restaurants make up a huge portion of town, most serving regional dishes, and many providing live music in the evenings.
