Pucará

Activity Info., Ruin

By Suzanne Russo

Looming over Tilcara is the sprawling pre-Incan hilltop fortress, Pucará. The partially reconstructed ruins are one kilometer south of Plaza Prado and include homes, corrals, a temple and a cemetery. Inside the park are a small botanical garden (of cacti) and a tiny store selling clothing and artwork. The ruins end at a monument to those who rebuilt the fortress. Visitors gather on the rock beyond with snacks or journals to enjoy the breathtaking view of the valley below.

Notes:

  1. The wind picks up on top of the hill.

  2. All descriptions are in only Spanish.
