Be careful if wandering late at night on the outskirts of the town, up in the hills, the streets are under-populated and under-lit after the sun sets.
In the high-altitude Tilcara take some basic health precautions. Here the air is thinner, the sun is stronger and it may be more difficult to breathe. So, plan accordingly with extra sunscreen and lots of water. Those planning to hike or bike should acclimate to the high altitude for at least a day (whether here or in another Jujuy town) before too much physical exertion.
