Climate & Geography, Festival
Most tilcareños brag about their year-round sunshine, with good right. The chilly evenings in the winter or the hot summer (December-March) days with a bit of rain are about the only weather troubles in this pleasant-all-year-round town.
Tilcara can be downright raucous during festivals, and maintains a pretty packed social calendar. January’s Enero tilcareño kicks off the year with music, dancing and sports. This is followed by Carnaval, which usually lasts most of February. Semana Santa (Holy Week) is marked by processions and religious celebrations, offset by the indigenous Festival of the Pachamama in August, a day devoted to giving back to Mother Earth.
