This massive green mountain looms over Salta, but the real attraction is not its greenery but the view from the top, reachable by a gondola which leaves from Parque San Martin. For those who prefer the rugged way, there are 1070 steps up, and they start behind the Monument to Don Martin de Güemes. Small Stations of the Cross adorn the foresty path. The stairs give a false sense of hope by meeting a road close to the top, but they continue a bit longer a short way up the road, and what awaits at the top is worth all that climbing. In addition to the stunning views of the city there are several shops, a café and an antique silver collection.
