For pre-Hispanic history, Salta’s thorough anthropological museum is the place to be. It began as a study of the Tastil ruins, but today contains both pre-Columbian and Incan artifacts. Some of the highlights include a collection of painted rocks found at the Tastil site and an exhibit of high altitude burials, which contains well-preserved mummies and artifacts from Tastil. There is also a substantial collection of pottery, weapons and tools for daily use.
