Museo de Bellas Artes

Museum

By Suzanne Russo

A fine arts museum on a busy shopping street? Yes, complete with goggling tourists and bored-looking teenagers. But once inside the historic adobe Arias Rengel mansion, all the bustle of Florida melts away. You’ll want to stay in the tranquil patio/sculpture garden for hours, but tear yourself away to visit the large collection of paintings and sculptures inside. The museum contains rooms devoted to major stages of Argentine history, with art from the Colonial period, the period of Independence, and a room for contemporary Salteño art, plus many special exhibitions.
