Jujuy

San Salvador de Jujuy is a southern city that serves as its provincial capital, located approximately 1,260 meters (4134 ft) above sea level with a relatively even climate throughout the calendar year. North of Jujuy is a beautiful gorge called Quebrada de Huachuca, while Cerro Chuquina and Cerro de Claros are located to the south. In town, the intricate interior of Iglesia San Francisco is worth a visit. The town also serves as a jumping-off point for Parque Nacional Calilegua.

Jujuy was founded in 1593, and has since been subjected to continual earthquakes and skirmishes. The Jujuy Exodus during the Wars of Independence - which is celebrated in August - occurred when General Belgrano ordered an evacuation of the city, then razed it to prevent its capture. The city used to draw its earnings from sugar, tobacco, fruits and vegetables but now is beginning to turn a better profit from tourism.

The town has adequate shopping, a few good restaurants and fine accommodations. Krysys and Manos Juje帽as are two of the better places to dine in Jujuy. Hotel Jujuy Palace and Hotel Altos de la Vi帽a are up-scale options, but there are good mid-range and budget options, as well.

,

Other places nearby Jujuy: San Fernando Del Valle De Catamarca, Antofagasta De La Sierra , Humahuaca , Santiago Del Estero , Purmamarca, Bel茅n, Salta, Taf铆 Del Valle , La Quiaca and Santa Rosa de Tastil.
