Getting To and Away

As the largest city in northwest Argentina, Salta serves as a major transportation hub. The bus terminal, located southeast of the main plaza and near the teleferico, provides daily long-distance services to Buenos Aires, Rosario, C├│rdoba, Tucum├ín, La Quiaca, Resistencia, Posadas, Puerto Iguaz├║ and Mendoza. International service to northern Chile is available with the company G├ęminis. Buses leave three to four times weekly and travel first to San Pedro de Atacama for immigration and onto Calama.

To get to Salta from the North: Take Nationale Route 9 from San Salvador de Jujuy to Salta (88km). From Bolivia, take the NR 34.

From the South, take the NR 9 from San Miguel de Tucuman until Salta (300km).
