The Ciruito Grande

Location:
Bariloche, Argentina

National Park

By Caroline Bennett

This is the big brother to the Circuito Chico. The Circuito Grande is a scenic 250 km loop that heads east on RN-237 out of Bariloche, skirts the Limay River and passes through the towering rock formations of Valle Encantado. The road continues on to Confluencia, where Río Limay merges with Río Traful, and continues on to join with the Ruta de las Siete Lagos before passing through Villa La Angostura and continuing back to Bariloche.

The trip could be made in a day (around 9 hrs). Alternatively, take the turn off to head to San Martîn de los Andes for a night; and, make the leisurely trip around the loop in two days.

Renting a car provides the flexibility to stop to admire views or take a swim. You also can take an organized tour from about any agency out of Bariloche (around $30-50 for a full day tour).
