Based on its hippy background, El Bolsón is about as safe a town as you can find. The locals are extremely friendly and often times will offer a gourd or two of mate along with a bit of chit chat for those with time to kill. This type of open-arms behavior is especially common in the campgrounds and around the artisan craft fair. Caution should be exercised late at night, as is the case with anywhere in the world.
