San Martín de los Andes is a relatively safe place to visit, due, at least in part,. Due to the many police walking the streets. Locals are also very kind, so tourists are very rarely threatened within the community. Still, as with any place you visit, be aware of your surroundings, don't carry valuables openly and listen to your instincts. Avoid dark streets at night that are in the near vicinity of bars and clubs, as these tends to be areas where robberies have been known to occur.
