The sparkly waters of Lago Nahuel Huapi stretch over 100 kilometers at 765 meters above sea level. The lake is the center attraction of the national park of the same name. The lake itself is the remnant of a glacier. Today it is water sports paradise and offers numerous boating, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, windsurfing and exploring possibilities. A pretty forest lines the lake shore, where there are plenty of trails for hiking, cycling or horseback riding, if you don’t want to get your feet wet.
The scenic Circuito Chico road runs along the lake shore and ends at Puerto Pañuelos, where a popular boat leaves several times a day for Isla Victoria, Puerto Blest and PenÃnsula Quetrihué.
Fishing season runs roughly from November to April. You can catch salmon and introduced trout (rainbow, brook, and brown), though first you must procure a permit in town.
The park’s head office is in Bariloche center (San Martin 24). You can find maps and up-to-date information on boat times and guided tours.
