Getting To and Away

Lago Huechulafquen is easily accessed from Junín de los Andes. Drivers should follow Ruta 61 northwest out of Junín for 57 km. The route runs along the northern edge of Lago Huechulafquen and continues onto Lago Paimun. The drive from San Martín de los Andes is 96km. From both Junín and San Martín de los Andes, Ko-Ko [Tel. (02972) 427422] provides regular bus service during the peak summer months (December to March), but be sure to check the schedule during other times of the year. Hitchhiking may be possible in the summer months as well. Alternatively, there are multiple tour companies in Junín and San Martín de los Andes that will drop visitors off at the lake for a fee.
