El Abuelo - Hiking Trevelin - Argentina

El Abuelo, “the Grandfather,” is the largest Alerce tree within Parque Los Alerces. This 2,600 year old tree towers over the park with a height of 57 m, which is quite impressive considering that these trees only grow 1 mm per year. To reach the tree, visitors must take a boat tour, Safari Lacustre, on Lago Martinez from Puerto Chucao. Tickets can be purchased from a number of tour companies including Gales al Sur (http://www.galesalsur.com.ar/excursiones.htm) and Brazo Sur (http://www.brazosur.com.ar/safari.htm), and prices vary from between $30-45 depending on the season. The boat ride and walk take about 5 hours in total.
