The “Tren del Fin del Mundo” was originally constructed as a train to move prisoners logging the Tierra del Fuego region to provide wood for the population in Argentina’s interior. It was the first train to be used for tourist purposes in Latin America. Today it is an elegantly decorated and heated steam locomotive that gives the passenger unbeatable panoramic views of the Tierra del Fuego region as it tranquilly traverses the 14 kilometers between its “Fin del Mundo” and “Del Parque” Stations. The round trip journey lasts 2 hours and 15 minutes. There are three to seven daily departures from the “Fin del Mundo” Station: Ruta 3 Km 3042, Ushuaia (8 kilometers outside town). This is the perfect activity for seeing the breathtaking landscape of the Tierra del Fuego region, and learning its history as you carve through its snow capped mountains along the Pipo River. The National Park entry fee is paid before boarding the train at the Fin del Mundo station.
