Here at the End of the World in Ushuaia, three breweries cook up Patagonian beers. Try them at the local bars, or pick up an assortment of them at souvenir and local shops and host your own tasting party with other travelers. Beagle is the most common; it makes three kinds: Indian Pale Ale, Fueguian Ale and Fueguian Stout. Many travelers consider this to be the hands-down best Ushuaian beer. (daily 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Soberanía Nacional 2723, Tel.: 43-4624, URL: www.cervezabeagle.com.ar).
Cape Horn makes a negra (stout), rubia (pilsen) and tostada (red ale) with glacial water and Patagonian-grown hops. The stout rates as the better beer. (P. Lawrence 894, E-mail: cervezacapehorn@speedy.com.ar)
The most difficult to find is Hain. It’s an interesting brew--not only for its concoctions, but also the descriptions. It also makes three types: k’terrnen (pale ale), shoort (dark, "representing intrepid men and strength”) and mataan (smoked), an intriguing concoction made with malt smoked over lenga wood (8 a.m.-6 p.m. Fueguia Basket 686, Tel.: 60-4702, www.cervezahain.com.ar)
